Bruce Haase
Son of a Dutch mother and American father, I have worked on four continents and am
multi-cultural and multi-lingual. I find that the richness of different
cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives can be the source of great ideas and new
ways of thinking. Bringing together these different ideas, and helping people
to create a deeper understanding is core to my facilitation practice.
In terms of my work background, I have more than 20 years experience in
international business, communication, and sustainability. This has given me a
deep understanding of business and CSR issues and hands-on experience
implementing sustainability strategies within commercial organizations. I have
moderated events ranging from small high-level roundtable events to larger
plenary events. I have also worked more than five years in event management,
which has given me a better understanding of what makes for a successful event.
The technical arrangements, the layout, and the ambiance of a venue can have a
huge impact on how people experience an event.
My business experience includes 10 years at Canon Europe, where my last role was
CSR Director for EMEA. The CSR Role gave me with the opportunity to pursue my
personal passion for sustainability in my ‘day job’. My business experience is
complemented by the work I did within NGOs and public-private partnerships
facilities working on climate and sustainability within commodity supply chains.
As head of the Climate Business Engagement Unit within WWF, I was
end-responsible for the prestigious Climate Savers program.
My degrees include an MSc in Sustainable Development (distinction) from The
University of Exeter with a focus on business leadership and a Bachelor's Degree
in history from Earlham College, a small Quaker liberal arts college in the
United States. Earlham is an amazing place that played a key role in forming
who I am. Although I don’t consider myself religious, the tied-up thinking and
value-based learning have provided a useful framework for my life-long learning
process. My Master’s at Exeter provided me with a deeper technical
understanding of sustainability issues, and leadership strategies for
implementing these within business.
From September 2013, I am available full-time for freelance facilitation, moderation
and training projects.
